What Is This Place?
The Birchwood Butterfly Ranch is located in the north woods of Wisconsin. It’s a cattle ranch that went natural and turned in to one of the northern most places where Monarch butterfly end their fascinating annual migration and produce the next generation. This is an oasis for the Monarch and other pollinators.

Birchwood Butterfly Ranch is an oasis for the eastern monarch butterfly. Located in the northern part of Wisconsin, it’s where hundreds of Monarch butterfly are born and leave for their annual 2000 mile trek back to the Oyamel Fir Forests of Mexico
FAQ: What is the purpose of the ranch?
The ranch is full of Milkweed, the one plant essential to the monarch butterfly’s survival. It also provides a habitat for other pollinators which may include the endangered Rusty Patch Bumble Bee.
FAQ: How did the ranch start?
The ranch started long ago as a cattle ranch. The current ” ranchers” bought the old farm with the intention of turning it back into a producing farm. However, they discovered the main crop is now milkweed and the main tenants the threatened monarch butterfly who relies on that milkweed for reproduction. Read more here

As a member of the Pollinator Pack, you can adopt one of the Butterfly Blocks in the milkweed field we call the Pollinator Paradise.

Bungalow Hill Block Pack Members are offered a two-night stay in the Butterfly Bungalow, where they can watch their Butterfly Blocks and enjoy the critters of the Pollinator Paradise all day and night.
