About Birchwood Butterfly Ranch
It Started With A Marital Spat

Danielle and Dean with the Pollinating Pointers (Ernie and Hank)
When they first bought the ranch Dean had the idea they would work the land to help pay for their home. As he likes to tell the story ” then the bugs showed up “. On a balmy July evening while walking in what they now call the ” pollinators paradise ” they realized this old hayfield had a secret. Hundreds of orange and black wings covered the purple flowers and giant leaves of the common milkweed which had taken over years ago. This was the beginning of the spat and their dive in to the world of the Monarch.

Danielle insisted there was no way they could change this fieled and get rid of the butterfly habitat. Dean reminded her that butterflies and bumble bees don’t pay rent and the tractor which mows the very trail on which they were walking ” likes to drink diesel, which isn’t free “.

As various family and friends started to weigh in on the dilemma it was clear Dean was not going to win this argument. He needed to figure out how he could get the butterfly to pay the rent.
So, the Birchwood Butterfly Ranch was born. We invite you to be a part of monarch adventure by joining the Pollinator Pack.
